From marc.cumbo at gmail.com Fri Oct 23 17:53:49 2009 From: marc.cumbo at gmail.com (Marc Cumbo) Date: Fri, 23 Oct 2009 13:53:49 -0400 Subject: [MacSpeech-Developer] MacSpeech 1.5 Message-ID: <92b73a900910231053v331778a4g522484d7f534ddd3@mail.gmail.com> To Whom It May Concern: Below are my opinions as to the flaws of MacSpeech Dictate and what can be done to address them. I have also expressed my utter disappointment with Nuance and MacSpeech. 1. Find a new way of managing the text in windows. The cache is flawed. Being able to mix manual editing with voice editing is essential. That is what makes Dragon Naturally Speaking a much superior product. 2. Simplify the commands. Perhaps mimic Dragon's normal mode if there is a concern about dictating the commands instead of executing them. There is no reason to have to say "Press the key combo" or "Make selection bold" when "bold that" or "Press command b" would work just as well. 3. Allow users to apply formatting commands to the recently dictated text. Just like I can say "scratch that" to delete the last word or phrase I just said, I should be able to say "bold that" or "cap that" or "underline that" without first having to select the text. Now I would like to express to you that I find MacSpeech Dictate to be onerous and inefficient to use. I regret wholeheartedly having purchased this program. It isn't that it can't be a good program, it is simply that it isn't a good program. You can make it better, maybe even as good as Dragon, but you must address the issues that make it onerous and inefficient. To recap the major flaws are: 1. The cache and the program's ability to know what is on the screen. 2. The spoken commands are unnecessarily long winded. Please review the way Dragon addresses these similar commands. 3. The ability to format on the fly is completely lacking. There are of course other issues, but I cannot see myself using this program until these fixes are first addressed. Again, I cannot express to you just how disappointed I am with your product. I feel foolish for having wasted my money. I am disappointed that Nuance featured your product on their website as it was a major factor in my purchasing the application. I feel cheated.
